A few introductions are in order. I am Purplestate. I began training for triathlons in November of 2007, and ran my first race in April of 2008. The race was .5 mile swim, 30 mile bike, and a 4.2 mile run. I finished in 138th place, with a time of 2:31:51.

B has been running triathalons since he was 15. He has run the Kona triathlon once. He has recently had to trim back his training schedule, and as a result has lost a few minutes from his peak performance times.
I have a few other interests besides the triathlon thing. I play diplomacy, star chamber, and poker; I write about race relations and ballroom dancing; I am an aspiring academic in the throes of the dissertation writing process. My wife teaches ESOL, my son is in grade school. No doubt these things will come up as I begin blogging with some regularity.
