10k was today

Not next week. So, here goes:

My time: 52min 25sec. That is close enough to running 8min 20 second miles that we're going to call it that. There were no mile markers on the course, which was fairly hilly, especially at the turn around point, so I have a hard time being more accurate than that about the splits, I had myself at 25m45s at the turn around, which is close enough to half that I am going to say I ran a fairly even pace.

B? You had to ask. 42 mins low, or 7min miles. 10 minutes is a lot of time to shave off of 10K, so rundown still in progress. On the other hand, he thinks he still runs faster than that, so he might just get depressed and quit . . . he maintains that I could indeed shave 10 mins off that time in a year or two, but that since his PB (Personal Best) is 31 minutes 30 secs, that he will likely be getting faster at about the same rate as me. So, lets hope he gets depressed and quit. You're old and fat and slow, B!

In other news, napping in the afternoon after a race day seems like a bad idea -- I hurt way worse now than I did before, and I have to go out and teach tonite. Bleah!

I do enjoy the excitement of race day, but the footrace thing isn't likely ever going to be "fun." I felt pretty bad in mile one, then got my stride and ground through to the turn around. The hills approaching the turn (and, in this out-and-back course, leaving it) were fairly significant, and I think my slowest mile was after the turnaround. Brian suggested that I try to "kick in" a bit sooner than I normally do when I train, so I opened up at the water station ~1.5 miles from the finish; I probably ran a mile at 7 flat, but then had to slow down to finish.

So, another 10K next month, a half marathon in January, a Marathon in March, train for the bike over the summer, and an iron man (or at least an olympic distance) triathlon this time next year. That will be a good stress reliever from my new Job (about which no information at this time. Hi mom!)
